Lucky Latte with SF Pas de Deux

Window to The Bay #36

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! May the luck of the Irish be with you today! I feasted my eyes last night on all of the colors of the rainbow at a beautiful performance of “The Colors of Dance” at SF Ballet. Here’s a full view of the Laura Ann Studio series “Latte’s SF Pas de Deux” now available as greeting cards at the SF Ballet Store.

I felt like a lucky girl taking advantage of the temperate weather and sunny green parks of late fall in San Francisco riding my bike to all of my favorite landmarks to sketch the series plein air! See my on site sketching selfies, bike helmet, vest and all! For those who share my enthusiasm for the late fashion photographer great Bill Cunningham, I thought back to the times in NYC when I spotted him riding around town on his bike in pursuit of his craft. I felt gratitude for a moment to do the same!

Over the course of a week, I biked and sketched at the following landmarks:

  • Castro Theatre

  • San Francisco City Hall

  • Conservatory of Flowers

  • Presidio Tunnel Tops (to admire the Golden Gate Bridge!)

  • Palace of Fine Arts

  • The Painted Ladies of Alamo Square

Can you spot the differences between the on site sketches and the final updates in the studio? Hint: look closely at the dancers! Find the answer below!

Follow along on Laura Ann Studio Instagram for time-lapse reels of the making of all of the watercolors in the series!

With love for the every day and special days,
Laura Ann Trimble Elbogen

P.S. Answer: The dancers change from dogs to people! “Latte the Dalmatian” and her golden retriever love, Gelato, make way for their human family as the star dancers of this series! Stay tuned for more updates on the picture book world of Latte!
