October is Archtober! This month the fourth annual Archtober (ärk’tōbər), Architecture and Design Month in New York City brings scintilating programs, lectures, films, and tours to designer lovers and the general public! Organized by the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter / Center for Architecture, the festival brings together 50 participating institutions on a common calendar featuring architecture and design events taking place all over the city. The jewel of the program is the "Building of the Day," where each day at a different site architects lead the public on tours of their own buildings. LAURA ANN Founder Laura Elbogen has been personally involved with organization of the festival from the start, and loves touring landmarks old and new for inspiration. A number of the buildings in her original "Historic Landmarks New York" watercolor illustration series have been on the tour schedule through the years. All tours are covered on the Archtober Blog, spearheaded by Archtober Festival Director Cynthia Kracauer, which is a great place to learn about both the history and new design developments at these celebrated New York City buildings.
